Description
Windows are used to maximize the transmission of a required wavelength range. In most cases, windows have a flat surface and an anti-reflective coating is used. The choice of material is very important for the application, as materials can have very different effects on different parts of the optical spectrum. The refractive index is the most important property of the material here and describes the change in the phase velocity of the light when it moves in the optical medium. The refractive index itself depends on the wavelength of the light beam and therefore on the Abbe number of the material. Thermal conductivity, density and Knoop hardness number should also be taken into account, depending on the area in which the product is to be used.
