Description
Aspherical lenses fulfill the same functions as their spherical counterparts, only more precisely. Aspherical lenses have, as the name suggests, a non-spherical surface. It is a rounded surface, similar to that of a spherical lens, but its shape has been precisely defined using a polynomial. Although production is more complicated and difficult than with simple lenses, spherical aberration is inhibited or compensated for. Spherical aberration is an error caused by the spherical shape of a spherical lens. Parts of the incoming beam at the edge of the lens are refracted more than the parts near the center and in this way they converge at different points.
